Does your dream not feel BIG enough?
Does your dream not feel BIG enough?
Years ago I was taking general classes at the local college. I had convinced myself that I wanted to become an RN. Not because it was my dream, but at the time all my friends were going to school for that. It seemed to pay well. And I enjoyed helping people. The thought of becoming a nurse itself actually didn't interest me much. Maybe that's why I was in school for so long and not even close to getting accepted into the actual program itself. I was stalling. But why? I didn't have the answer then. But I was taking the next best step for myself at the time.
I feel in life we walk blindly not knowing the exact answer as if we are waiting for God/Universe to stand in front of us, hold us by the hand, and say here do this. We may not see Him in person. But, he does work through people. We do get signs. Can you hear, see, and know them when you receive them?
My first sign was my aunt mentioning to me one day when I was taking my generals in college. She said, “Why don't you go to school for Massage Therapy”? I thought, huh? I'm in school to become an RN. Being an RN to me felt important. But I was not seeing in myself my actual talents and superpowers. I was looking outside of myself. I was wanting to force something that was not for me. God/Source energy works through people. She was reminding and encouraging me of what I could not see at the time. My gifts.
I was borderline offended when she said this. Does she not think I am smart enough? Does she think I wouldn't make it as a great nurse? She saw something in me that I denied within myself. I had always been interested in the holistic lifestyle and reading books on Massage Therapy. Growing up with my handicapped sister massage was a way that we could bond together. It came naturally.
I didn’t listen right away. I am a true stubborn Taurus. I move when I am inspired and want to. For the next year I was still taking generals and about to begin taking the core nursing classes. As the time got closer, I started having nightmares of having to do IVs and blood draws. I was actually having bad dreams about this. I was terrified. I had a change of heart real fast. Reality set in that I did not want to take this path. But what else would I do? I felt like it was a huge waste of my time all these years doing something that I wasn't going to finish. But was it a waste?
I heard my aunt's voice speak to my heart. Why don't you go to school for Massage Therapy?
I caught myself wrinkling my face up in almost disbelief or annoyance.
Massage felt too small to me. It didn't feel “big” enough. It didn't feel “impactful”.
Well, guess who went to school for Massage Therapy and later got her dream job working as a Licensed Massage Therapist for Mayo Clinic? And later started her own Holistic Wellness practice. THIS GIRL!
Was school a waste? Was all that time for nothing? NO! While going to school I also worked at a hospital. I made many friends as well as important connections that later connected me with my dream position. I learned more things about myself. It was the next best step for me at the time. The choices we make in life are not in vain. It is all leading us home.
I laugh when I think of that and bring it up often when I'm working with my clients who come to me unsure of their next step, having big dreams, but not knowing where to go or what to do. It can feel overwhelming trying to see the end outcome. The truth is we just need to take the next best step. All these “small” steps are leading us to something bigger. Every small step is essential. Nothing is a waste.
Many of us, including myself, disown our natural superpower and talent. It comes so easily to us that we dismiss it. It doesn't feel like work. We feel guilty for even thinking of charging for what we can so easily do. And sometimes everyone also has this talent or knows what we know. It comes naturally to us. Therefore it must come naturally to everyone else, right?
So, where do we begin?
My clients and I go within and I ask them powerful questions. Through powerful and thought-provoking questions they discover their super power.
Our superpower is the thing that comes naturally to us. Easy. easy to us can FEEL not big enough. But it is big. I believe it is a part of our divine purpose. Everyone's purpose can look different. Maybe yours is that you love being a stay-at-home parent and making a difference in raising the next generation, maybe you are tech savvy helping those like me navigate the world with technology and computers so the world can run more efficiently, maybe you thrive being around people and your superpower is bringing people together,
You DO have a superpower, everyone does. And it IS BIG. I promise you.
Ask yourself these five questions:
1. What do you enjoy doing?
2. What do you do that makes time fly by?
3. What would make you get out of bed excited in the morning?
4. What have others complimented you on?
5. What was your favorite thing you loved doing at a job? Even if you disliked the job, Was there something you liked doing?
Don’t overlook the simple things that you may think don't matter. Because they do matter.
I remember vividly sitting across the table from almost every teacher at parent-teacher conferences sharing with my parents “She is so calm”. This “little” thing I realized later in life was one of my superpowers. I now am a thriving Meditation Instructor helping many people in their lives also feel calm. Growing up I made myself believe that I wanted to be more “outgoing and social” like the other girls. I see influencers that have bubbly personalities and were once thought to be impactful influencers one must be bubbly and outgoing. There is no competition. The world needs them. The world needs me. And the world needs YOU.
Sometimes we are so close to our own superpower that we can’t see it. Can you imagine being the sun and never seeing yourself as worthy or valuable or knowing you're making a difference in the world simply because you can't see yourself?
But others see you. They are mirrors reflecting to you your light. The true people in our lives may have shared with you how you have helped them. Or maybe they have shared a compliment with you about yourself. Believe them. The sun may not be able to see its own light. Like you, you may not be able to see the light right now. But that doesn't mean it's not there. You are here to make a difference in the world. But most importantly you are here to feel joy. To feel fulfilled. To enjoy this life.
I am here to help you discover yourself and find clarity. I am here to help you to remember who you are and discover your superpower. We can feel lost and unfilled when we are not living the life that we came here to live.
I am here for you. You are not alone in this journey.
